WHAT IS DIABETIC RETINOPATHY?

  You might have observed vision problems in the people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. There are various eye diseases there but certain ones start developing just after diabetes starts attacking the body. High blood sugar levels sometimes damage the blood vessels of the eyes and lead to Diabetic Retinopathy . Sometimes blood vessels swell and leak and sometimes they close, stopping the blood flow. Any of these changes might lead to loss of vision. In the early stage, tiny blood vessels leak leading to swelling of the retina or the blood can be blocked due to the closing of blood vessels. This stage is called NDPR (Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy). In the second stage, the retina starts to grow new blood vessels and the fragile ones bleed. Dark floaters are seen on the eye and sometimes they block all the vision. Scar tissues can also be formed leading to a detached retina.
